Spring Flower Fairies

Today I have been inspired to create a piece for the Lawn Fawn Challenge # 5, Spring. The lovely blossom photograph made me think of a beautiful book which enthralled me as a child, and subsequently also my daughter, called Flower Fairies of the Spring by Cicely Barker. So I just couldn’t resist creating a box card using the Lawn Fawn Fairy Friends and Gleeful Gardens stamp sets with “fairy dust” background card created using the fairy dust elements from the stamp set. In true fairy fashion, glitter and sparkle abounds. I can’t tell you how much fun I had being transported back to that happy place of magical beauty and fantasy.

Penny Black “Bejeweled” Mothers Day card

Today I have created a Mother’s Day card by watercolouring the gorgeous Penny Black “Bejeweled” stamp using dye ink brush markers. I coloured each component of the image with the markers, building layers from light to dark, misting each layer very lightly with water, before stamping with my Misti tool. I used a fine liner brush to paint some fine veins to the leaves and then added some background spatter detail.

Wish You…

Today I have been inspired by the Altenew Inspiration Challenge April 2017 to create a card for my Mum Mothers Day.Altenew April Challenge

Using the inspiration colour scheme, I began by creating a pale yellow watercolour background. I then used Tim Holtz Distress Oxide inks to create smooched blue and green backgrounds for the flowers and leaves. They were then white heat embossed, fussy and die cut, then brushed with clear Wink of Stella.

65th Wedding Anniversay

Today I was asked to create a special 65th Wedding Anniversary card for life long friends of my Mother. Not knowing what 65 years commemorates, apart from being a very long time,  I had to do a google to find out that it is “blue sapphire”. This set the colour for the card, and knowing that the couple are well into their 80’s I thought a simple romantic classic style.

Happy Day

Today I have been inspired by the Altenew Inspiration Challenge, March 2017.

Altenew March 2017_InspirationChallenge

It is such a “HAPPY” image, both in subject and colour, so I decided to use the word happy with Altenew’s Doodle Blooms using the challenge colours of yellow, orange and red.

Happy Day low

I first created some watercolour papers using my new Tim Holtz Oxide Distress Inks and used these behind the happy negative word die cut and also to stamp the flowers. I drew some white gel pen doodles on the flowers. I added some “movement”, reminiscent of the dancers, to the white background with ink splatters and the stitched strip die.

Supplies used:
Stamps: Altenew Doodle Blooms, Lawn Fawn Lets Bokeh
Dies: Altenew Doodle Blooms, Die-namics Stitched strip, WPlus9 Happy Trio
Inks: Tim Holtz Oxide Distress Inks-Peeled Paint, Fossilized Amber, Spiced Marmalade, Fired Brick; Memento black
Other: watercolour paper, coloured rhinestones, white gel pen, black & white washi tape

Thanks for stopping by and “Have a Happy Day”.

Luminous Freesia

Thank you Aga for your gorgeous bright and colourful  Bougainvillea photograph for this month’s Altenew challenge. Each day I enjoy driving past an exact same coloured Bougainvillea on a wall near my home- so reminds me that I live in the sub tropics. One of the things that most inspires me about Bougainvillea flowers are that they have an incredibly luminous quality. So my response to this challenge was to create a card not only using the colour pallette but to also capture and convey the luminous quality of this flower.

feb2017_altenewchallenge_aga

I began by creating a water coloured background in the yellow green. Once dried I painted the entire surface with a mixture of gum arabic, white pearlex and water, whilst it was still wet and sticky I sprinkled splotches of white pearlex powder and lightly brushed these out. This created a textured luminous backround.

I then created a beige mother of pearl lace piece using a silicone mould and Mother of Pearl Viva creme.

The Altenew Fresh Freesia stamp was coloured with Zig brush markers, then coated with Wink of Stella clear.

luminous-freesia

Each layer of the card has a different type of luminosity, which unfortunately, the camera fails to pick up.

Materials used:

Stamps: Altenew Fresh Freesia, Hero Arts sentiment
Ink: Versafine black onyx, Memento black
Other: water colour paper, watercolours, Zig brush markers- fluro pink, pink, dark pink, yellow green, olive green, mid green, Pearlex Macro white, gum arabic, silicone lace mould, Viva modellier creme Mother of Pearl, Wink of Stella clear, foam tape for mounting freesia, pink card, imaginisce crystals.

I really enjoyed my journey in making this card and thank you for stopping by.
