Thank you Aga for your gorgeous bright and colourful Bougainvillea photograph for this month’s Altenew challenge. Each day I enjoy driving past an exact same coloured Bougainvillea on a wall near my home- so reminds me that I live in the sub tropics. One of the things that most inspires me about Bougainvillea flowers are that they have an incredibly luminous quality. So my response to this challenge was to create a card not only using the colour pallette but to also capture and convey the luminous quality of this flower.
I began by creating a water coloured background in the yellow green. Once dried I painted the entire surface with a mixture of gum arabic, white pearlex and water, whilst it was still wet and sticky I sprinkled splotches of white pearlex powder and lightly brushed these out. This created a textured luminous backround.
I then created a beige mother of pearl lace piece using a silicone mould and Mother of Pearl Viva creme.
The Altenew Fresh Freesia stamp was coloured with Zig brush markers, then coated with Wink of Stella clear.
Each layer of the card has a different type of luminosity, which unfortunately, the camera fails to pick up.
Materials used:
Stamps: Altenew Fresh Freesia, Hero Arts sentiment
Ink: Versafine black onyx, Memento black
Other: water colour paper, watercolours, Zig brush markers- fluro pink, pink, dark pink, yellow green, olive green, mid green, Pearlex Macro white, gum arabic, silicone lace mould, Viva modellier creme Mother of Pearl, Wink of Stella clear, foam tape for mounting freesia, pink card, imaginisce crystals.
I really enjoyed my journey in making this card and thank you for stopping by.
Can see why you enjoyed making this card Carol – it is a stunner! Love each different gorgeous layer – a lot of “work” has gone into it for sure.
